The 4th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics

Third Announcement

 

 

We are 20 days away from the opening day of the 4th IOAA. The tentative program is now available at our website, please take time to go through it and send us any suggestions that you might have. In the tentative program, you will notice that an event called the group competition has been set up. However, the format and content of the group competition is open to discussion, and we welcome your input and suggestions. In addition, there are a few final details that we would like to remind all participants about.

 

First, please fill out the flight information table as soon as the flights of your team are finalized, so that we can arrange your transport to and from the Beijing Capital Airport;

Second, the observational competition will be held in the mountainous region of Beijing, where temperature at night in mid September can be as low as mid 10s centigrade, be sure to remind your students to bring long pants and light jacket with them;

Third, we require the team leaders from each team to bring at least one laptop computer with them.  You will need your computer at the numerous international board meetings. Your laptop should have wireless capabilities so that you can hook up with local network.

Fourth, for hotel arrangement and T-shirt selection, please fill out the table attached to this announcement, and send back to the following addresses before Aug. 28, so that we can have time to have your T-shirt appropriately made.

For those teams who have completed the preliminary registration and have been approved by the IOAA president and secretary, please proceed to the next stage of formal registration. Please fill out the following registration form for members of your team so that we can issue you the letter of invitation, which is often necessary to obtain your visa at the Chinese consulate or embassy near you. The Fourth International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA-2010) will be held in Beijing, China, from September 12 to 21, 2010. The schedule of IOAA-2010 will be similar to the previous IOAA in Iran. Same as the previous IOAAs, teams from each participating country are composed by 2 team leaders and 5 students in maximum. There will be no participation fee for the 2 team leaders and 5 students from each approved team during the period of September 12-21, and the Organizers will provide accommodations including food and hotel to the teams during the period. The observers should pay USD 1000 for the period mentioned above. All participants need to pay USD 80/day/person if the stay is outside the above period.
